Accessibility in Counseling

Counseling Shouldn't Be Harder to Access Than It Already Is

Reaching out for counseling takes courage. Finding a therapist shouldn't create even more obstacles.

At Path Forward Counseling, accessibility is one of my core values. While no practice can eliminate every barrier, I believe we should do everything reasonably possible to reduce them.

Because Path Forward Counseling is a fully online practice, I have the opportunity to make counseling more flexible and accessible for many people who might otherwise struggle to receive care.

Whether your challenges involve finances, chronic illness, disability, communication, transportation, or simply the demands of everyday life, I want to work with you to determine whether Path Forward Counseling is a good fit for your needs.

Financial Accessibility

Financial hardship should not automatically mean going without counseling.

Path Forward Counseling offers several programs designed to make therapy more accessible during periods of temporary financial hardship. These opportunities are available on a limited basis and are offered at my discretion based on financial need, clinical appropriateness, and current availability.

Programs may include:

  • Financial Accessibility Program

  • Beginning Teacher Wellness Program

  • Pro Bono Continuation of Care for established clients experiencing temporary financial hardship

Because these programs are intentionally limited, availability cannot be guaranteed.

Communication Accessibility

Good therapy begins with good communication.

I recognize that every client communicates differently, and I strive to make online counseling as accessible as possible.

Whenever available, telehealth sessions can utilize closed captioning to improve communication. While automated captions are not always perfect, they can be a helpful tool for many clients.

I am also happy to adjust my communication style, provide written resources when appropriate, and discuss reasonable accommodations that may improve your counseling experience.

Accessibility Means Different Things to Different People

Accessibility isn't one-size-fits-all.

For one person, it may mean the flexibility of telehealth. For another, it may mean financial assistance, closed captioning, or accommodations related to a disability or chronic health condition.

If there is something that would make counseling more accessible for you, I encourage you to ask. While I can't promise every accommodation will be possible, I'm always happy to have the conversation.

My Commitment

Accessibility isn't a checkbox. It's an ongoing commitment to reducing unnecessary barriers so that more people have the opportunity to receive quality mental health care.

If you're wondering whether Path Forward Counseling can meet your needs, I'd love to talk with you.
